Minutes of Meeting for Crofton Children’s Play Area Association

on 20th January 2003

Attendees:   Paula Baker, Robert Baker, Christine Sinclair, Bev Schofield, Sharon Gallagher, Joan Helme, Duncan Thompson, Andrea Martin, Arthur Ripley, Helen Tate and Julian Ellis.

Apologies:    David Wright

1.  The minutes of the last meeting, dated 17th December 2002, were agreed.

2.

·        Julian had meant the group to become a limited liability company.  We agreed this was something to talk about at a later date.

·        A need was expressed to organise Jez Horsley & Crofton High School into a date for Julian to go in and start drawing plans with the students.

·        The minutes should be amended to read ‘Fair Share’ rather than Fair Trade.

·        It was felt we needed to sort out the conditions for the lease.  Julian was asked to arrange a meeting with himself, Alan Ayre, Alan Smith, Arthur and another member of the group.  Paula said she would speak with Paul Beckett and ask him to attend the meeting.

·        The urban parks’ web-site was thought to be helpful.  Paula is to look at this and feedback at the next meeting.  The site is www.urbanparksforum.co.uk.

·        The National Playing Fields Association was also suggested as a source of information and advice.

·        The New Housing Development was mentioned as a way of raising funds, but as no new houses are being built this was not seen as a legitimate option.

3.  Sharon advised the group she was unable to make the fun day as she had family commitments.
Bev, Duncan, Joan, Christine, Andrea, Paula, Helen and Rob all offered their services for the day.  It was agreed to open between 1pm and 3pm, but to meet from 11.30am to set everything up.
We agreed to have a bric-a-brac stall including toys, a cake stall and drinks.  The games we agreed to have are the ‘paper aeroplane’ game, roll-a-penny, play your cards right, lucky dip and ‘splat the rat’.
The prices were agreed as:
Tea       25p
Coffee    30p
Juice     10p
Raffle    20p

Bev offered her year 6 classes talents to make the posters to advertise the event.
Sharon suggested publicising the event through the Wakefield Express by asking them to write a feature about us and coming to take photographs etc on the day.

4.  Sharon informed the group she had to ‘guestimate’ the figures from Slack Lane Junior School as Mrs Fowler had rubbed all the information off the board before she had chance to go back into the school to count it.

Paula has written to the Crofton Health Centre, Crofton Community Centre, and the library asking for permission to show the children’s designs during February and March.

5.  The next meeting is to be held on Monday 24th February at 7.00pm in the staff room of SLPS.
