CROFTON CHILDREN’S PLAY AREAS ASSOCIATION

Minutes of the meeting on Monday 23rd February 2004.

Attendees:  Robert Baker, Paula Baker, Julian Ellis, Arthur Ripley,

Helen Tate, Maureen Cummings, Duncan Thompson

& Albert Manifield.

Apologies:    Sharon Gallagher & Sean Skidmore

1.      The minutes of the meeting dated 12th January 2004 were found to be a true and accurate representation.

2.     Matters Arising:

·       The bollards have been knocked down in the car park.  Albert it to have a meeting tomorrow to organise these to be replaced.

·       Alan Smith was poorly so the meeting with Arthur has been rearranged this week.  Julian notified Arthur that this meeting has to be arranged again as it is not convenient.  Albert requested the meeting with Alan as he is less likely to be cancelled.

·       Apparently Alan is wanting to be able to move our skatepark to another venue if it is not used, which did not please our group.

·       Paula is still waiting for the telephone number for Active England.

·       Maureen informed the group that the reason she has not passed on the form for funding as promised was because it was for Parish Councils only.  She passed on another telephone number to apply for up to £7000, which sounds like a funding body we have already applied to.

·       We want to take part in the Carnival but want to organise our Easter party first.  We will have silly games again.

3.     Easter Raffle / Party:

·       We have the raffle tickets for us all to sell!

·       We have booked the disco, at a cost of £100 for 4 hours but CCC have asked to go halves with us as it was so popular last time.  We will hand over responsibility at 8.00pm.

·       Costs will be £1 for adults on the door, children free.

·       The date is 2nd April, 6.00pm until 8.00pm.  The raffle will be drawn at 7.45pm.

·       Please can the committee try to be at the venue for 5.30pm to set up.

·       Raffle tickets will cost 50p each, as the prizes are not as good as before.

·       Wakefield Shirt Company have offered to donate a shirt or blouse.

·       Maureen suggested trying Cineworls, Pizza Hut, Coca Cola, Asda (the Community Fund), The Theatre Royal, Redcats & Venus Health Supplies.

·       Jacksons and JJB have asked for requests in writing.

·       Duncan will not be able to make the party, so has donated £10 towards a skateboard.  As did Arthur for the bike.

·       All members agreed to donate an Easter egg.

·       First evening to sell is to be Friday 5th March, in the Crofton Arms if they are willing.

·       Crofton Arms, Cock & Crown & Weaver’s Green in one night.  Crofton Club & Royal Oak another night.  And The Lord of the Manor, The Slipper & CCC in another night.

4.     Funding Update:

·       We have been notified that we have been awarded £5000 from Scarman Trust.  Paula is to attend a meeting/workshop on Wednesday in the town hall, 7.00pm until 9.00pm, to find out more information.

·       Arthur asked Paula to contact Living Spaces regarding timing for our fund application.  Also, with regard to the news that WMDC may try to remove the skatepark in a few years.

·       The Crofton Millennium Trust has declined our offer, which we are very disappointed about, especially as the charities involved are not all within the village, serving the people of the village who had supported them.

·       We have the Entrust approval that we needed to get the Wren funding.

·       Arthur has found out that the reason we failed with an application to Barclays is because we are not a registered charity.  He explained that this is because it costs too much.  They recommended we send a copy of our constitution to see if we are a charitable cause & if so they will consider our application again.  We have had a reply.  We cannot apply again for the skatepark but we can for the next stage, the children’s park.

·       Albert informed us of a VOX information session to be held soon but unfortunately we do not qualify for funding from them.

·       We have now got approximately £33000.00.

5.     Planning Application Update:
We have got it!  It was approved on the 28th January and has a 5 year life span before it expires.

6.     Next Meeting:
Monday 22nd March at 7pm at SLPS Staff Room.

7.     A.O.B:

·       Ossett Skate Park monies has come from money being given by Builders having a considerable development (section 106).

·       Paula showed the group another article, which appeared in the Wakefield Express about our activities.
