MINUTES OF THE MEETING FOR

CROFTON CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA ASSOCIATION

ON MONDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 2003

Attendees: Sharon Gallagher, Paula Baker, Christine Sinclair, Joan Helme,

Duncan Thompson, Arthur Ripley and Helen Tate

Apologies:  Robert Baker and Andrea Martin

1.          The minutes of the last meeting, dated 20th January 2003 were agreed.

2.               It was agreed that the web page be used as a point of contact.

3.

·        It was felt the fundraiser on the 8th February 2003 was successful, with good responses given by the people who supported us.

·        We took £101.17 on the day, which gave us a profit of £64.00.

·        The left-over cakes and buns were taken down to the sheltered housing complex in Crofton (Hawthorne Court).

·        The left-over toys were taken to the Wakefield Hospice shop.

3.1

·        Paul Beckett asked Alan Smith to join with them in the meeting with WMDC.

·        It seems the reason WMDC is being uncooperative with our plans is a lack of precedence.  They are unsure how to react, as no other community group has tried to build a play area before (they usually just petition the council to do it).  They’re not used to such organised, determined fundraisers.

·        The legal department is currently looking into our case, regarding the lease.

·        Paula asked if a follow-up meting had been arranged, but Sharon replied that it was simply a case of Julian keeping us informed with how things are progressing.  No time scale has been given.

·        With regard to the bushes, WMDC expressed surprise that the hadn’t yet been removed.

4.

·        Joan has given permission for a selection of designs by the children to be displayed in her room in the Health Centre (where the babies are weighed).

·        Julian is still having trouble contacting Jez to organise the next step with the children of the High School.  It was decided Sharon would ring him, Julian would e-mail him and Paula would meet him in the street (while he supervises the children boarding buses); all with the hope of inviting him to our next meeting.

5.

·        Arthur will find out more about VOX (Voluntary Organisations) and let us know.

·        Marie has stepped down, due to other commitments.  She wished us well with our venture and will support us in any way she can.  Sharon suggested sending her a thank you letter.
