St Joseph's church closed in June 2008 following a review by the diocese The church building is situated on Santingley Lane, where it was built in the 1930's. It was part of the Parish of St Peter & St Paul which covers much of South Wakefield- see the parish site on www.peterpaul.org.uk |

It had a regular congregation of about 50 at the Church, and a vigil Mass was celebrated every Saturday at 4.0 pm. Coffee and fellowship was always available after the Saturday Mass. | ||||
St Joseph's took part in village events and had close links with fellow Christians at All Saints Parish Church in Crofton. See below a letter sent to the village magazine, Smoke Signal announcing the closure of the church

ST.
JOSEPH’S It is with a sad heart that I write this after
hearing that our church is to close at the end of June after 75 years of
service. I remember it being built and my family, relatives
and catholic congregation being so
happy that we finally had a church of our own in Crofton. We were very thankful to All Saints church,
Crofton, for letting us use their Mission Hall at New Crofton. At the
time we had nowhere else in the village to celebrate Mass except occasionally in one of the houses. Over the years we had lots of events in During the war we had dances every week for the
soldiers and airmen stationed
in Crofton and Wintersett, and I
know a great time was had by all. I would like to thank the priests, curates and
deacons who have kept the church
going for so long. We have a great community spirit at Mary Byard June 2008
