Crofton is in the "Crofton, Ryhill and Walton" ward of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. Until June 2004 it was in the "Crofton and Akworth" ward.
The new ward is served by three councillors. Albert Manifield, elected in 2010, Maureen Cummings re-elctedin 2007 and Susan Lodge who was elected in 2008
